Born from an ongoing dialogue between Oliver Knight, Rory McGrath (OK-RM), and James Langdon, A Meaningful Order charts sixteen years of OK-RM’s practice through an exploration of design as both process and philosophy. Structured alphabetically across 26 chapters (A–Z), the 328-page volume blends visual archive, typographic experimentation, and critical discourse to form a “designerly writing” that examines how objects acquire meaning through form and context.
Developed alongside an exhibition in Hangzhou, the book reflects on the intersections of conversation, material, and production—culminating in a lithographically printed study in rhythm and precision. Featuring an extended interview with Jack Self and an introduction by Lila Matsumoto, A Meaningful Order is at once an archive, a dialogue, and a manifesto for design as cultural inquiry.
